Alcina Reimagined

 Alcina Reimagined

examines the story from a more nuanced, feminist perspective. In previous interpretations of Alcina, we understand the women represented to be sorceresses who lure men to their island and discard them when they become bored. But, what if there is more to their story? As the typical narrative and composition of the work is derived from the male perspective, what if Alcina were performed from the womens' perspective?

  • Utilizing the software Unreal Engine and Neuron Perception 3’s motion capture technology, we offer insight into perspectives of various character’s perspectives.

Through the fantasy backdrop of Alcina, filled with island magic, we are not just producing an opera by creating a world.  We are thinking about stories that have been presented to us for generations and re-imagining them, inviting our audiences to do the same.  We believe as we open to new ways of seeing and storytelling in art that we also will have the ability to understand the stories of our histories through new perspectives.
